An incessant tapping at my bedroom window drags from the longest and most peaceful slumbers I've had in a long time. Sleeping during the day is really so much better than sleeping at night. More people should try it... like whoever is owling me at this time in the afternoon.
Stumbling over last night's hastily discarded clothes, I open the window to let in a frazzled owl. Looks like it's in a hurry. Who could want to talk to me so bad that they'd rush the little guy's wings?
I relieve the owl of its post. It doesn't move as if waiting for me to respond. "Go on up to the owlry. There will be a dish of treats there. I'll use one of the house owls top respond if needed," I tell the small creature. It looks affronted that I wouldn't use it for a return reply but flutters away anyway.
